Our Affiliate – PUMC Pharmaceutical Co.
Our affiliate company in China is PUMC Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., founded in 1995 at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Health to pioneer the development and commercialization of new medicines for the Chinese market. These include medicines licensed from U.S. and European companies, as well as those developed in-house. Of note, PUMC Pharmaceutical is one of two companies in China (the other being Johnson & Johnson) permitted to import Class-One, controlled narcotic products. “PUMC” is the acronym for “Peking Union Medical College” – founded in 1917 by the Rockefeller Foundation, and one of China’s leading medical colleges and hospital systems. PUMC Pharmaceutical’s affiliation with PUMC generates meaningful brand resonance with both physicians and patients. More importantly, PUMC’s facilities, physicians and researchers serve as key resources for PUMC Pharmaceutical’s drug development work in China.
The Evolution of Velos Global
In 2006, recognizing the value of a pan-Asian approach to drug development, PUMC Pharmaceutical’s shareholders reorganized the company’s business development function as a separate company, Velos Global. Our new mandate was to source, develop and commercialize new drugs that addressed the unmet medical needs of patients not only in China, but across the entire Asia Pacific region. |
