Out Licensing Opportunities
For our U.S. and European partners, Velos is a central destination in Asia for out-licensing novel drugs. Unlike the pharmaceutical markets in the United States or the European Union, there is no pan-Asian equivalent. The Asian market is characterized by a wide range of disparate systems for clinical development, registration, reimbursement, sales, marketing and distribution across the multitude of countries. For example, registration times for the same product can range from 11 months to upwards of 3 years, depending on the country. Some countries do not allow bridge studies. Requirements for bioequivalence data, or animal models used in preclinical trials differ. Pricing structures can be heavily swayed by reimbursement policies in one country, or the distribution schemes of another. Channels can be dominated completely by a central hospital authority at one extreme, or by general practitioners at the other. For our U.S. and European partners, Velos' pan-Asian drug development model offers one point of contact for accessing the aggregated drug development capabilities and market opportunities of these fragmented markets, thus achieving efficiencies and economies of scale not achievable via an ad hoc, territory by territory approach. Velos acquires the license for all available Asian markets. We then parcel out the sublicenses to the appropriate local partners and coordinate the commercialization process for the region.
All of our local drug development partners are proven leaders in their respective therapeutic specialties, and have the deep, end-to-end clinical and commercial expertise to commercialize new drugs in their respective territories. Velos’ core drug development capabilities are in East and Southeast Asia; in China, Velos works primarily with our affiliate, PUMC Pharmaceutical Co. We are also currently developing our network in the Middle East as well. Depending on the product's stage of development, the complexity of our licensing deals ranges from straightforward distribution deals for marketed products, to joint financing and co-development structures for projects requiring further clinical development. Companies seeking to license out late-stage or marketed products, please contact us at bd@velosglobal.com. |
